    Description

    ZJ-6000 Silicone Structural Sealant is a one-part, neutral cure, specifically designed for structural bonding and curtain wall adhesive construction applications. It easily extrudes in a wide rang weather condition and quickly cures at room temperature to form a high durable and flexible silicone rubber seal.

    Characteristic

    Structural Sealant has an excellent adhesive to most of construction material without a primer.

    It has good features as follow:

    a. Can be easily used and extruded any time.

    b. Neutral cure-suitable for use on most construction materials.

    c. Excellent adhesion to most construction materials without the primmer.

    d. Excellent weather ability and stability.

    e. High modulus after cured, extension/compression movement capability of up to ±25% of the original joint width.

    Where to use

    ZJ-6000 Silicone Structural Sealant is designed for use in structural glazing applications such as: use for structural adhesion and seal the joints of the structural glass and metal or other building components in the factory or building site. It is also be used to adhere stiffening elements to building panels and for other similar adhesive applications.

    Use limitations

    ZJ-6000 silicone structural sealant for construction is fit for structural usage. It should NOT be applied in the following conditions:

    a. To all spaces that bleed oils, plasticizers or solvents such as wood immersed in oil, oil

    Crack filler, and some uncured or sulfur zed fat, it should NOT be applied.

    b. To the unventilated space (Silicone sealant need the water in the air to cure)

    c. To the circumstances as immersed in water for a long time, underground all the year

    d. To painted surfaces, may cause seal failure as the paint cracking or paint stripping

    e. Frost or wet surfaces

    f. Surface touch the food directly

    g. Easily suffer mechanical clash

    h. Fireproofing seal system

    Storage and usable life

    When stored at dry and airy, 27 or lower temperature conditions in the original unopened container, ZJ-6000 has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture.

The technical communication between suppliers and applicants are necessary for the present situation: varied sealant types, daily changing materials and the compatibilities between surface treatment and materials.     Shop drawing showing sealant join details must be submitted to ZHIJIANG Silicone technical staff for a drawing review prior to the Use of ZHIJIANG ZJ6000 Silicone Structural Sealant in any structural application.

    ZHIJIANG Silicone will evaluate tests about the adhesion of our products to job site or representative job site materials in standard laboratory. Results of the adhesion testing, product recommendations and surface preparation will be forwarded in writing.

    Incompatibility of glazing materials can lead to sealant discoloration and/or loss of adhesion. To help protect against these problems and to ensure compatibility, ZHIJIANG will also test and provide information on the compatibility of accessory materials (gaskets, spacers, etc.) and other ZHIJIANG Silicone sealants.

    Structural glazing joint design

    The design of a silicone structural joint must be prepared by the design professional, based upon industry accepted design guidelines.

    A typical silicone structural joint is illustrated in Figure 1. Basic design parameters include:

    The structural bite must be a minimum of 6mm

    The glue line thickness must be a minimum of 6mm

    The structural bite must be equal to or greater than the glue line thickness

    The structural bite should not be greater than 3 times of glue line thickness

    The minimum structural bite is calculated as:

    Structural bite(only for Wind load)=0.5×Short Side of Panel(mm)×Wind load(kPa)/Seal and Design Strength(138kPa)

    The minimum glue line thickness should be greater than:

    Displacement(mm)/[(Sealant movement capacity)×(2+sealant movement capacity)]0.5

    The structural sealant must be able to be filled using standard caulking practices

    The structural joint must not move during cure

    If the silicone is intended to support the dead load, 6.9kPa dead load design strength is allowable

    Note: Other proprietary systems may have alternate details. The appropriateness of such systems will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

    These are preliminary guidelines, consistent with common industry practice.

    Application

    Cleaning all grease, dirty, water, klunky sealant from surface, accessories and protective coatings and any pollutant left inside joints and sunken parts.

    Metal and glass should be cleaned by two-cloth. The solvent used will be methyl ethyl ketone, tolune or xylene and observe the using rule. If for plastic, use the guided solvent from suppliers.

    Depending on the condition of the surface, porous substrates may require abrasion cleaning, solvent cleaning or both. Surface must keep dry and clean. Dirties and other impurities should be blew off by non-oily compressed air or gulfed by vacuum cleaner.

    Priming

    It's commonly not necessary for priming on using zhijiang silicone sealant. If recommending primer after adhesion tests pour zhijiang primer to a clean, dry, lint-free cloth and gently wipe surface till a thin film formed. Later application.

    Masking tape should be used to keep excess sealant from contacting adjacent areas where it is not intended, to ensure an aesthetically pleasing job. Tool the sealant with light pressure before a skin begins to form (typically 10 to 20 minutes). Remove the masking tape before the sealant skins over.

    Backer materials

    Generally, three common backer rod types can be used : Open-cell polyurethane, Closed-cell polyethylene, Non-gassing polyolefin. When a backer rod cannot be positioned in a joint opening, a Teflon or polyethylene tape should be used to prevent three-sided adhesion.

    Application method

    Install backing material or joint fillers. Set blocks, shims and tapes. Cut the nozzle of ZJ-6000 and fit into gun and make extrusion diameter fit for joint. Continuous extrude sealant into joint without air forming. Care must be taken to ensure complete fill of the sealant cavity. Tool the sealant with light pressure before a skin begins to form. Make sealant surface a sunken shape using raised tool. Not use soap water for assistant. Remove the masking tape after tooling. The sealant for bottom joints should be tooled into slope to protect water accumulation. The surface of sealant should be dry and frost-free. The uncured sealant is not permitted to contact with polished granite, metal or glass to preventing a thin film formed on the substrate surface to affect the esthetic things. Use masking tape. If sealant contact with non-porous material, clean out with methyl ethyl ketone, tolune or xylene.Warm temperature and high humidity will help the curing o
