Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Lecithin Oil Sludge Separation

Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Lecithin Oil Sludge Separation
Description

The Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Lecithin Oil Sludge Separation continuously separates recoverable vegetable oil, aqueous liquid, and lecithin-rich solids from degumming sludge.

It is suitable for soybean, sunflower, rapeseed, corn, and other edible-oil refining processes. Stable feeding, temperature control, and adjustable phase-interface settings help reduce oil loss and concentrate valuable phospholipid solids.

Typical Applications
  • Hydrated lecithin sludge separation
  • Water-degumming sludge treatment
  • Acid-degumming residue processing
  • Crude vegetable-oil gum separation
  • Oil recovery from phospholipid sludge
  • Lecithin-rich solids concentration
  • Refinery tank-bottom sludge treatment
  • Pretreatment before lecithin drying

Lecithin Oil Sludge Challenges

High Phospholipid Content

Hydrated gums can be sticky and highly viscous, affecting feeding and solids discharge.

Stable Oil-Water Emulsion

Phospholipids, proteins, soaps, and fine solids may stabilize the liquid interface.

Temperature Sensitivity

Insufficient heating increases viscosity, while excessive temperature may affect lecithin quality.

Variable Sludge Composition

Oil, water, gums, and solids content may change between degumming batches.

Product Contamination

Food-grade materials, sanitary seals, polished surfaces, and suitable cleaning systems are required.

Lecithin Oil Sludge Separation Solution

Lecithin Oil Sludge
→ Screening
→ Heated Agitated Tank
→ Optional Conditioning
→ Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge
→ Recovered Oil + Aqueous Phase + Lecithin-Rich Solids

Recovered Oil → Filtration / Refining
Aqueous Phase → Oil Recovery / Wastewater Treatment
Lecithin-Rich Solids → Drying / Further Processing / Disposal

Peony Can Provide

  • Feed testing and centrifuge selection
  • Heated tank and controlled feed pump
  • Adjustable bowl and differential speed
  • Adjustable oil-water interface
  • Food-grade SS304 or SS316L parts
  • Flushing or CIP cleaning
  • PLC and dual-VFD control

How the Decanter Centrifuge Works

1. Conditioned Sludge Feeding

Heated and conditioned lecithin sludge enters the rotating bowl.

Agitation maintains stable temperature and composition.

2. Solids Sedimentation

Centrifugal force moves gums, meal fines, proteins, and dense impurities toward the bowl wall.

A concentrated solids layer forms.

3. Oil-Water Separation

The lighter vegetable-oil phase remains closer to the bowl center.

The heavier aqueous phase forms a separate outer liquid layer.

4. Continuous Solids Conveying

The screw conveyor transports settled lecithin-rich solids toward the conical end.

The solids discharge continuously.

5. Three-Phase Discharge

Recovered oil and aqueous liquid leave through separate outlets.

Lecithin-rich solids discharge continuously for further processing.

Main Advantages

Higher Oil Recovery from Degumming Sludge

Recovers vegetable oil retained in hydrated gums and reduces oil loss during degumming.

Concentrated Lecithin-Rich Phase

Produces a higher-solids lecithin stream for drying, purification, or further processing.

Handles Sticky, Viscous Gums

Controlled heating and adjustable differential speed support stable conveying of phospholipid-rich sludge.

Adaptable to Changing Gum Composition

Adjustable bowl speed, phase interface, and feed rate accommodate variations in oil, water, and phospholipid content.

Food-Grade and CIP-Compatible Design

Sanitary wetted parts, polished surfaces, and optional CIP support hygienic lecithin processing.

What Data Is Needed for Selection?

Please provide:

  • Feed source
  • Oil, water, and gum content
  • Temperature and viscosity
  • Required capacity
  • Oil-recovery target
  • Lecithin product requirement

FAQ

Can the decanter treat hydrated lecithin gums?

Yes. Feed temperature, viscosity, gum concentration, and water content should be evaluated before selection.

Can acid-degumming sludge also be processed?

Yes, provided the pH, acid type, corrosion risk, and emulsion stability are confirmed.

Is heating required before separation?

It is usually recommended to reduce viscosity and maintain stable feeding. The temperature should match the lecithin-quality requirement.

Can recovered oil return directly to refining?

Possibly. Moisture, phosphorus, gums, soaps, and suspended solids should be tested first.

Can the discharged solids be used for lecithin production?

Potentially. Oil content, phospholipid concentration, moisture, color, impurities, and food-safety requirements must be checked.
