Heat Treatment
- Annealing of 65Mn Spring Steel: Slowly heated to 730°C and allowed sufficient time for thorough
heating, then cooled slowly in the furnace. Resulting hardness: MAX
250 HB.
- Hardening of 65Mn Spring Steel: Heated uniformly to 830-860°C (1526-1580°F) until completely
heated through. Provide about 30 min per 25 mm of ruling section,
then immediately quench in oil.
- Tempering of 65Mn Spring Steel: Performed at 540°C. Soak well at selected temperature for at least
one hour per 25mm of total thickness.

Applications
65Mn steel, after heat treatment and cold drawing hardening,
exhibits high strength with certain toughness and plasticity. In
surface hardening cases, it achieves complete fatigue limits
comparable to alloy spring steel. However, hardenability is poor,
making it mainly suitable for smaller size springs such as
regulating speed springs, load springs, round and square spiral
springs in general machinery, or pull wire for small mechanical
springs.
